Book Review: It

IT by Stephen King is a story about a small town called Derry that is terrorized by a being known as It every 27 years. It is a monster that appears as someone’s greatest fear and then hunts them down and consumes them. The story revolves primarily around six characters who fight back against it. The story takes place both when these characters are kids, and then 27 years later when they are all adults. In addition to dealing with It, each character has their own personal issues that they are trying to deal with, all while avoiding the childhood bully who is hell-bent on bullying the six of them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each character was very distinct from the others and were relatable in some way. You never wondered what their motivations were behind their actions, you understood why all the characters were the way they were. The story had excellent pacing and even the less action-packed sections made you want to continue reading. One of the most interesting elements of the book was that it balanced the childish themes and events with the darker, more mature ones. It made it easy to see the events through the eyes of a child as well as from the view of an adult.
For anyone who is a fan of suspense and horror, IT is a must-read. It has the plot, characters, and structure to be one of the best thrillers out there. So do yourself a favor, and immerse yourself in the world of IT.
