A Rewarding Experience

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be one of the greatest decisions you’ll make in your life. I remember when my English professor mentioned that the Writing and Reading Center was looking for tutors and encouraged us in the Honors Program to apply. At first I thought I was not smart enough to tutor students in a language that I did not fully understand till I was 13 years old, but something in me believed that it would be a rewarding experience. Working at the WRC for almost 3 years helped me develop my communication and leadership skills, as well as my confidence to handle a variety of tasks in and out of work. Also, tutoring a variety of students helped me understand how valuable it is to help others. From personal experience, I know how difficult it is to work on a subject that you are not familiar with. I believe students are able to succeed with the right support and guidance which is why I am glad that our service can benefit them in the long run. I am sad that this will be my last semester working at the WRC because I got so attached to my wonderful coworkers, students, and supervisors but I will leave satisfied knowing that the little help we offer students can greatly impact their lives. I am very happy to have stepped out of my comfort zone because I accomplished many things and will continue to grow with the tools and knowledge I gathered from the WRC.
